In a 6-1 vote last night, the State Center Community College District Board of Trustees voted to hire Dr. Bill Stewart to lead the district.
Stewart will serve as deputy chancellor until June 30, 2014 and effective July 1, 2014 he will assume the role of interim chancellor. Dr. Deborah Blue will be retiring as of July 30, 2014 and will remain in the district as chancellor emeritus until June 30, 2015.
Stewart has served as SCCCD chancellor in the past from 1985-1999.
“I am happy to be returning to State Center Community College District, and I am looking forward to assisting in the transition, and to ensuring that our students continue to receive the highest quality education,” Stewart said in a released statement.
Stewart’s contract will be up for approval at a subsequent board meeting.
