    Mendocino takes a shutout

The FCC women’s soccer team dominated and delivered a shut out game against Mendocino College on Friday October 7. The weather was sticky, hot and the energy could not have been more aggressive and on point from both the team and the crowd.

Screams and chants from Fresno City College fans erupted throughout the game, especially each time FCC scored and kept the opposing team from even coming close to a possible goal. It created an atmosphere that seemed to captivate and hypnotize FCC fans.

From the moment the clock started, the ladies took no time to destroy and conquer Mendocino College. Within the first two minutes of the game FCC’S #7 Britney Quiroz demonstrated perfection with an amazing kick that allowed the team to have the first goal of the game with a smooth assist by #3 Denise Hernandez.

From that point on the Rams brought the heat to Mendocino College by scoring 4 goals by the end of the first half. #3 Denise Hernandez followed up with the second goal of the game and to finish up the first half FCC’s # 21 Dree Coleman scored two goals back to back. Mendocino trailed FCC 4-0.

FCC kept their pace and capitalized every chance they could by allowing the opposition no room to execute on the field. During half time Head Coach Germond gathered his team together and talked strategy, but clearly there was no need for a pep talk.

The ladies had the fire in their eyes and it was obvious that the Rams would continue to dominate Mendocino effortlessly. About four minutes into the second half FCC quickly started scoring, #7 Britney Quiroz delivered once again with an assist by FCC mid fielder #4 Cassandra Rodela. Exactly two minutes later Rodela scored a goal, allowing FCC plenty of time to maneuver and visualize the next play freely. From that point on two more goals were perfectly executed, the final goal was scored by FCC mid fielder #14 Alex Rivas with a fast and clear assist by FCC mid fielder #8 Mary Perez, whom scored just minutes earlier.

At the end of the game Coach Germond said, “It’s always nice to pick up a win.” Assistant coach, Drew Mattos continued on by saying “I thought we did a great job. When we play teams like this we need to shut them out.”

After the field cleared the ladies joined each other at the sidelines and bowed down to FCC fans as a thank you for their love and support in triumph of their victory, a majority of the crowd rose to their feet and clapped as the ladies made their way off the field.
