Gavin Ruland, News Editor
Gavin Mark Ruland was born on April 16, 2004 at Clovis Community Hospital. A few years later his sister would be born and the Ruland family moved to LA so Gavin’s mother could attend culinary school.
Gavin and his family moved around a lot, living in places such as Simi Valley, Northridge, Redondo Beach, and Tarzana before moving to Reedley, California to be closer to extended family. Gavin’s mother would move up to Shaver Lake a few years later, where Gavin would finish 8th grade at Big Creek Elementary.
Gavin would later attend Clovis West High School but only for his freshman year before moving back to Shaver and attending the rest of his schooling at Sierra High School. Gavin has worked on and off at various restaurants his mother has run and operated as a dishwasher/prep cook. Gavin has more recently worked as a store clerk at Lakeshore Resort in Huntington Lake over the Summer. Gavin is now in his second semester as a journalism major at Fresno City College. He is the current news editor for The Rampage, FCC’s student-run newspaper. Gavin is a fan of comic books, movies, and he is hoping to pursue a career as a writer (more specifically a comic book writer) in the near future.
Juan Garcia, Reporter
Juan Garcia is a freshman at Fresno City College, they’re 18 years old, they’re majoring in journalism, and they grew up in Sanger their whole life. He is a Sanger West High School graduate and used to work for the schools newscast named the “WestCast”. He’s participated in many film festivals like Slickrock, TigerROMP, and Picture of the Valley and won a handful of awards for his short films and PSAs. He’s only made 2 short films called “The Shed” and “Beyond the Broken Wall” and they can be found on his YouTube channel SCHMOO (@SCHMOO_Offical). Some of his favorite movies are Ponyo, Pirates of the Caribbean, and any Spider-man movie, and his favorite shows are King of the Hill, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Cowboy Bebop. Juan was also in the marching band and jazz band in high school and played bass drum and synth for marching band and piano for jazz during his time there. He is now in the Bulldog Marching Band at Fresno State and plays synth for the band. Piano is Juan’s main instrument and has been playing it for 3 years now. Juan’s favorite genres are Jazz fusion, Sampling, Indie, and synth pop. He enjoys making his own music and made 1 album named “Flava!” that can also be found on his YouTube channel. He hopes to transfer to Fresno State after his time at Fresno City College and get a film degree there. He eventually wants to make his own movies with a huge budget after graduating.
