    Hip Hop: Beyond the Mainstream

The Hip Hop music that gets air time on the radio is very limited in terms of what is really out there in the music world. In terms of Hip Hop, MTV, BET, Mun2, and the radio are heavily into promoting the so called, “mainstream.”

In other words, what makes money.

There is a limited selection to choose from in regards to mainstream music. More artists deserve an opportunity to showcase their talent. When people listen to Hip Hop music on the radio or see it on TV, they get a perception of what Hip Hop stands for.

What they perceive is not always the full picture.

In all actuality what is marketed in the mainstream media is not where it ends. Are you aware that there are many different types of hip hop music? It is not all narrowed down to one type or one flavor.

There are many different styles and types within the particular genre.

It is not all centrally focused on what the media portrays it to be, but a little more intellectual and organized as far as lyrics and feeling. It all depends on what you as the listener prefers.

Where can one find these various types of hip hop if the radio or MTV does not support or advertise them?
