About the Contributors
Juan Muratalla, Sports Editor
Juan Muratalla is a 22-year-old dude born and raised in Fresno. He loves the Ravens, writing, laughing, and video games. Along with his favorite band, Pink Floyd. He is studying Journalism at Fresno City College and has taken the Journalism class three times as a reporter, Opinion Editor, and Sports Editor.
Juan feels connected to his Mexican community, especially now, and has always been motivated to help share stories of those who need it. Although he has been rather isolated growing up, Journalism allows him to meet people and build relationships and community.
Another identity that Juan shares is being a foster youth. Independence is important, but Juan has recognized that without a team of those who care about you and are willing to support you, life is near impossible.
Juan is also hard on himself but is getting better. Juan still shies away from others but has learned to speak up and loves to make others smile. He also really wanted a drum kit because he loves music and drummers like Neil Peart and John Bonham. He had to settle for a bass, which he also really loves. Now he can be like Greg Lake or John Paul Jones.
Juan has enjoyed his time at FCC and thinks that it has been the best years of his life. He is both scared, excited, and hopeful for the future, and wants to continue his work in storytelling and community building.
