    Educational Booths at The Fair:

    Central Valley Bee Keepers Association

Our main goal is to teach and inform the public about bee keeping. The booth also talked about their number one product, honey. They are trying to promote bee keeping. They provide pamphlets and a lot of different stuff to give away at the fair. The spokesman at the Beekeepers Association Dalton Frits said, “Anyone that wants to come and learn about bees is welcomed. Members of the fair are bee keepers, we generally approach people and talk with them about the information we know.” We just talk to anyone that want to learn more about bees. When asked about next year Fritz explained, “The person running the booth this year will change next year but we will be back next year and the years to follow inform about bees.”

    Fresno County Mosquito Control

Our main goal at The Fresno fair is to educate people about mosquito control. We try to target anyone and whoever is interested about mosquito’s. This is an ongoing problem for the public and our booth provides everything they need to know to keep mosquito’s under control. We try to give out pamphlets, that gives out information and knowledge, encouraging people to come to us when having a question and we’ll be happy to answer it. We also have an interacted board here for the public that they can go through. Spokesman at mosquito control booth Dave Parker said, “As of this year at The Fresno Fair we’ve done pretty good, quite a few interested. Every year were here, trying to reach out to the public.”

Safety at the Big Fresno Fair

    (Q&A with Officer Frank Sabato)

Q: Describe some of the new procedures your department is utilizing to insure the safety of the public?

A: A lot of officers stay in quadrants, we’re not just strolling like you see us, we will be watching for a certain amount. We’re not letting people run in groups of 10 and 20. We’re not letting anyone run. They will be escorted out.

Q: On any given day can you give me an estimate of how many officers occupy the fairgrounds?

    A:  About 30 plus.

Q:  Categorized into areas, some I see walking, while others are on bikes. How do you organize what officers go where?

A: We have bike units, we have mounted units, they’re assigned, some through bike classes to go through that unit.

Q: In case of an emergency, what types of procedures or protocol is mandated?

A:  If it’s a crime we’re going to hook them  up and arrest them. If it’s just for running then they will be escorted out for their behavior. If someone brings a weapon then they will be charged for it, if it’s an illegal weapon. They’ll take you off the property.

Q: Since the fair is wrapping up this weekend what types of incidents did your department handle this year?

A: Mostly fights. During the day there was some counterfeit money being passed and counterfeit bands through the rides. But this year it’s been a pretty calm fair.
