Members of Fresno City College’s women’s volleyball teams have earned academic honors to recognize their accomplishments both on the court and in the classroom.
Athletes of the indoor volleyball team received recognition for achieving GPAs at or above 3.4. Those on the beach volleyball team received recognition for achieving GPAs at or above 3.53.
“I want to set myself up for academic success in the future,” said indoor volleyball athlete Phoebe Constable, a pre-allied health major.
Teammate Malia Edwardson, a fellow pre-allied health major, is also focused on her academic future.
“I’m working to get good grades. That way, I can secure a spot … at a nursing school,” she said.
The girls attribute their success, both athletic and academic, to the encouragement of those around them.
“My family, teammates, and coaches are my biggest motivations to do well. My favorite thing about being a student athlete at FCC is being able to play with amazing young ladies who love the sport just as much as I do,” said Constable.
“The thing that motivates me to succeed in academics and athletics is our coach, Kieran Roblee. I was really shy coming in my freshman year but being on the volleyball team has helped me break out of my shell,” said business administration major Julia Nicolet.
As volleyball season starts up this semester, the women of FCC volleyball are looking forward to the competition.
“It’s a privilege to be here at Fresno City where we get to continue the tradition of excellence and compete against some of the best teams in the state,” said Edwardson.
