Rams Split Double-header in Sacramento

The Fresno City College baseball team experienced both ends of the spectrum Friday and Saturday, after splitting a two game series against Sacramento City College.

The Rams won their  first game at Union Stadium in Sacramento against the Panthers 6-1. FCC was on top of their game, using solid defensive play and strong pitching by Christian Belleque and Devin White.

Belleque pitched seven innings, with 10 strikeouts and allowed one run. Late in the game, White was put in for two innings and ended the game with one strikeout.

The Panthers used pitchers Dan Sayles, Kyle Roybal, Dom Campodonico, Andrew Komelis, Taylor Shores and Chris Kunz, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Rams from hitting.

FCC players Trent Seib, Anthony Hawkins, Justin Flores, Jack Karracker and Nick perez went 1 for 4, while  Michael Tittle and Jackson Glines both went 2 for 3. Glines also had 2 RBIs in the win.

The teams squared off for the second time on Saturday, as the Panthers answered back with a 6-4 win.

Right off the bat, the Panthers began to hit and took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

After two innings FCC pitcher Andrew Astone was removed  and replaced by Dominic Topoozian for the remainder of the game.

SCC continued their hitting in the third and ended the inning with another two runs, which made the score 3-0  for the Panthers.

The Rams came back during the sixth inning and started hitting. At one point, literally, hitting the ball at the Panthers when FCC outfielder Anthony Hawkins hit a line drive too fast  for Sacramento’s pitcher to catch, hitting him in the face and delaying the game.

The Rams ended the sixth with another three hits and four runs when Hawkins singled up the middle, Ryan Wells doubled to left field and Jeff Brown doubled to right field making the game 5-4 Panthers.

Sacramento added a run to  their  winning score during the eighth inning, and made the score 6-4 Panthers.

Despite the loss, the players remained positive.

“We have a very talented team, we just lost a tough game,” said first baseman Ryne Dean.

The Rams are scheduled for three home games against Riverside this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The games on Thursday and Friday are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and the Saturday game at noon.
