Fresno City College pitcher Drew Merlo has found success on and off the field.
Merlo has just been named the 2012 California junior college All-Academic team with a 3.88 GPA.
He got off to a quick start this season as he struck out eight batters in six innings and helped the Rams defeat Sacramento 2-0 in a non-conference match.
As a senior at Buchanan High School, Merlo was named to the 2010 All Bee Team and was also the co-pitcher of the year in the Tri-Rivers Athletic Conference.
With a 12-1 record, 89 strikeouts, and a 1.74 ERA, the lefty led the Bears to the Central Section Divison I championship.
In his second year at FCC, Merlo is expected to be one of the core players on the team.
