Rams Women’s Tennis Sweeps Tigers in Record Time

The Fresno City College women’s tennis team remained undefeated after strong finish over conference rival Reedley College. The win improved their record to 11-0 with one game remaining before hosting the Big 8 conference south division tournament on Mar 19.

The Rams controlled every aspect of their matches over the Tigers as they showed how strong of a team they are with seemingly every strike of the ball going their way. The Rams swept the inexperienced Tigers in record time.

The day started with doubles competition that featured two matches, with the pairing of Fresno’s Raquel Gonzales with Harley Pena and Milah Ryland with Maria Ochoa.

Both of the Rams pairings brought their A game to the matches, and their skill sets matched perfectly with each other; being able counter any mistakes that a teammate would make during match play. Both Rams doubles teams won their matches with them winning 16 sets combined and only losing two.

“It seemed more of an easy outing this time around as we were able to do all of the things that we wanted to everything we wanted to do.” said Pena.

Once the Rams wrapped up doubles competition they quickly moved their domination to singles play; the results were the same.

Each member member of the Rams roster received their chance to shine, being the more well prepared team with great serves, recovery shots and being able to take advantage of miscues by an inexperienced Tiger team. The Rams would finish the match with an 8-0 series win.

“It is really good that we are the kind of strong team that we are being able to have these kind of matches that we are able to win with ease.” said Gonzales.

Rams head coach Chantel Wiggins considered this team almost as a warm up match, as their next scheduled match were the play host of the in the Big Eight southern division conference tournament, where they are considered the heavy favorite.  As a sight of their unbeaten record that they continue to push themselves to bigger heights to reach their ultimate goal for a state title.

“Being undefeated right now is awesome, as it is a sign of how strong of a team we are and how we continue to push ourselves to reach our goals.” said Wiggins.
