Fresno City College will be renovating the sports facilities equipment, according to associate dean of athletics, Derrick Johnson. There are plans to have renovations by 2035. Therefore this is a project that will take a few years to complete.
Ratcliffe Stadium is the main project, the FCC stadium that opened up 99 years ago in 1926. There would also be enhancements made for football, soccer and baseball since all these sports are played in Ratcliffe Stadium, Johnson said.
The athletics aspect of this renovation is also important, since that is the way athletes get their support. Derrick also said that the gym and the locker room will be upgraded to fill the support of their athletes.
Not only will this upgrade benefit athletes, it may also help every student attending Fresno City College. The facilities on campus aren’t always used by the athletes, they are used by non-athletic students too.
“The facilities are classrooms. The gym room is a classroom, the wrestling room is a classroom, the softball field is a classroom,” said Johnson.
Johnson said the new facilities would simply impact the overall student body.
FCC plans for the new facility equipment to be accessible to everyone in the Fresno community. Giving the people this access would help limit all the health issues that many have. Many people suffer from heart problems to diabetes (etc). It’s a goal for these facilities to help others and to add wellness programs to address the health issues some may have.
