Softball dominates the Central Valley Division: Rams counting on strong leadership and chemistry

After taking the Central Valley Conference title, the Fresno City College softball team is looking for success in the playoffs.

The Rams beat the Porterville Pirates 2-1 in 8 innings in the first game of the NorCal playoffs and 10-6 in the second in the CVC Championship game.

Sophomore Cierrah Mullins contributed on the offense by hitting three home runs.“In the first game I tried so hard,” said Mullins “I know we needed a hit.”

Starting pitcher Vanessa Salinas has been named the CVC pitcher of the year and was also named to the All State first team.

Head Coach Rhonda Williams is the CVC Coach of the year.

Sophomores Kapri Angotti, Tiffani Balladares, Kim Fisher, and Cierrah Mullins were named to the CVC first Team.

Winning the CVC gave the Rams the No. 5 seed in the Northern California Regional and placed them against the No. 12 seeded Solano falcons in the first round.

Solano has the Bay Valley pitcher and coach of the year.

The falcons also have 6 of the 13 Bay Valley first team members.

The Rams beat the falcons 1-0 in the first game and 9-0 in the second to take the sweep.

FCC is now in the NorCal Super Regionals. Their next game is against No. 4 San Joaquin Delta Mustangs.

Delta has the Big 8 conference pitcher of the year, Kelsie Monroe,  and two all conference first team members in sophomores Mia King and Erica Mireles.

If the Rams beat the mustangs on Friday, they will have to play another team saturday followed by the NorCal semi finals on sunday.

According to the seeding, if there are no upsets, FCC would play the No. 1 seed Siskiyous. In the Ohlone March Madness tournament, the Rams beat Siskiyous in the quarter finals.

The Rams could then advance to the California Community College State Finals.

They will continue to rely on the leadership of Salinas and Mullins to go all the way.

Salinas hopes to continue her 28 game winning streak. Mullins will need to hit well along with Angotti, Balladares, and Fisher.

The Rams are also focused on minimizing the errors.

“Every game we have at least one error,” said Mullins “ If we clean up the defense we will be unstoppable.”
