Expressing Yourself Through Your Attire

There are many people who dress the way they want, without caring what others may think. Some dress according to how they are feeling that day, while others wear clothing that is trendy or that is a part of a different style. Expressing yourself by what you wear is a way for people to see your personality. Dressing in different ways than others can show people that you don’t care what they think and that you are your own person inside and out. Some get beat up and picked on for looking or acting different while having their own style and way of life but it’s much better than following the “in” crowd.

“I dress the way I do because I like it. It is as simple as that. I am an artist so I have a different way of viewing things, what some see as ugly or scary I see as beautiful,” said artist David Cruz.

Many people have been denied jobs because of the way they dress and present themselves in today’s modern society. Employers have become more lenient towards hiring individuals with piercings and tattoos. People with piercings and tattoos can dress in a business fashion just like anyone else trying to find a “nice” job.

“As I said before I am an artist, and I express myself through what I wear. My body is like a blank canvas, and my clothes are the paints, I wear what I really like or think is interesting, just like I would draw or paint what I think is interesting,” said Cruz “What it comes down to is it’s what I like to wear, what I think is beautiful, what makes me feel good about myself.”

Society is cruel and many people get made fun of  for dressing the way they want, whether they are dressed in bright or dark colors. Other times, you may see a man dressed as a woman or vice versa. In my perspective,  kids in this generation are dressing much different than they should be. Now you’ll see a 10-year-old girl with dyed hair and dressing like she’s 18. Girls are wearing much less clothing than usual. Trends come and go, but if you compare how young girls dressed five years ago to how they dress now, it is a great difference. I believe girls were much modest with their attire then, than they are now.

“I don’t really like the way the majority of teenagers dress. Mainly because they have no respect for themselves or other. I’ve never really liked it when people sag their pants or wear very little clothes in public; I think they can still dress “cool” without showing their whole body to the world. But that’s just me,” says Cruz.

No matter how you may like to express yourself, or be creative, we are all equal individuals. Some may choose a different style of attire than others, but it’s just another way that they choose to express themselves.
