Affordable student housing found around campus

Being a college student has many financial ups and down, and the biggest “down” is finding an affordable place to live.

The Fresno City College area has many unique options for one and two bedroom apartments that are affordable and close to campus.

The majority of these listings are aimed at students who work part-time and live primarily on financial aid. However, if you are a deal hunter, then this article will suit your fancy as well.

The Villa del Mark Apartments, which are on the corner of Wishon and Hedges, is in the heart of the Tower District and is only a 15-20 minute walk to Fresno City College.

What makes these apartments so desirable are the many “tower-esque” amenities which include: central courtyard, onsite laundry facilities, heating and window A/C units, ceiling fans through the apartment, plenty of storage room and a garage for an extra fee.

The rent is $675-$885 per month depending on upgrades and if split with a roommate, you get an affordable pad that’s in the middle of everything popular that’s happening in town.

Another spot in Tower that you’ll want to check out is 363 N. Glenn Ave. Yes, this is the name of the apartment complex, so GPS the address and drive slowly.

Pets are not allowed at this complex, but don’t let that turn you away. The amenities include: large floor plans, onsite laundry facilities, gated and covered parking, A/C and heater units,  and close access to the freeway, the Tower District and public transportation.

The rent is $500 for a 700 square-foot one-bedroom apartment.

A short walk will take you Cafe Corazon ( one of the “Best of Fresno” competitors for “Best Coffee Shop”) and a few more steps will take you to the Tower Sports Club.

Other popular spots around this area that make Villa Del Mark and 363 N. Glenn Ave well worth looking into are the Starline performance venue, Roger Rocka’s, the Tower Theater, Livingstones, The Chicken Pie shop, Babylon, Veni Vidi Vici’s, Sequoia Brewing Company and the list can go on.

The rent may seem high, but if you take into consideration the money you will be saving by not having to drive to school, possibly work, and to your favorite Tower District locations, the rent won’t seem nearly as much.
