Dusty buns flourishes in new location

Three weeks ago, owners of the famous Fresno food truck, “Dusty Buns” opened the doors to their first restaurant, called “Dusty Buns Bistro.” Located one block west of Fresno City College, across from Fresno High School, the new bistro enjoys the rare luxury of continuously operating at full capacity whenever they are open for business.

Their success is the result of the momentum Dusty Buns gathered as one of Fresno’s most famed food trucks. To establish themselves, owners Dustin and Kristin Stewart took full advantage of social networks to generate buzz about their whereabouts so eager customers could get their fill.

Through social media, word-of-mouth and by serving up quality ingredients mostly originating from the valley, the Dusty Buns bus and the Dusty Buns bistro have quickly emerged as two of Fresno’s hot spot eateries.

The Dusty Buns bus was nominated to appear on the Food Network’s second season of “The Great Food Truck Race”; but they fell just short of competing on the national stage.

The Dusty Buns Bistro offers the same great food that loyal customers of the Dusty Buns bus have come to know and love.

The spring menu includes $7 sandwiches like the renowned Dusty Bun, which contains organic, chipotle roast chicken and a sesame carrot slaw; Le Grilled Cheese, which contains aged white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and king spinach; and the Veg Out, which consists of Fin herb goat cheese, honey roasted beets and arugula. Sandwiches are served on a freshly baked and toasted dusty bun.

Not only was the Dusty Bun tremendously satisfying, but the portion of the sandwich was so generous that the contents overflowed from the bun well before taking a bite. The combination of plenty of roast chicken and slaw is superb.

Sides cost $3 and include a market salad, bistro fries and a soup du jour, which consists of organic potato leeks, stuffed pecorino and chives.

For an additional $2, customers can enjoy unique and delectable desserts including chocolate ganache-covered clementines, tasty cakes and their amazing spring granola, which consists of organic rolled oats, local pecans, almonds, dried mission figs, dried strawberries and avocado honey.

Tasty cakes have a winter holiday sort of sweetness and a “raw cookie dough” quality. Tasty Cakes are a definitive comfort food.

The granola dessert makes for a delicious snack to enjoy later that evening or the following day.

This is one of the most satisfying food options available within walking distance to FCC. When comparing restaurants in proximity to campus, students and faculty will discover a superior balance between quality, nourishment, portion size and price at the immensely popular Dusty Buns bistro.

The restaurant is cash only and is located at 608 E. Weldon Ave, at the corner of Echo and Weldon. The Dusty Buns bistro is open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information concerning either the Dusty Buns Bistro or the Dusty Buns bus, visit www.dustybuns.com.
