Rams Dominate with stifling D

The Fresno City College women’s basketball team put on a dominant performance in their 103- 39 victory against Taft. With 12 straight wins, the Rams improved to a 23-3 record (9-0 in conference).

The Rams controlled the game from the tipoff scoring the first 11 points of the game in quick fashion. The Rams did anything they wanted to do with their offense.

Fresno made sure that Taft had no way of coming back in this game, causing turnovers and creating offensive possessions which resulted in every member of the Rams roster scoring points.

Erin Pallesi led the charge with 20 points. Taft had no answer for her on defense. The Rams ended the first half scoring 28 unanswered points.

“It was really good scoring 28 straight,” freshman guard Julia Cuellar said. “It shows how our defense is working the way it should and our offense is working really well.”

The second half got off to a sloppy start as both teams were unable to control the ball, turning it over constantly which resulted in the first four minutes of the quarter being scoreless. The Rams reestablished control of the game by giving almost a repeat performance that they did during the first half. They scored their majority of their points with very little resistance from a tired and undermanned Taft squad.

The Rams started out the fourth quarter staying strong on defense while slowing down the pace on offense.

“It was the tempo of the game. Our coverage was pretty good,” Teller said. “We constantly subbed players in and out, we don’t lose when we sub out players.”

Though much of the game was a blowout by the Rams, they really do not look at it that way. This game was the perfect way to get ready for the end of the regular season and a deep playoff run that they hope to have.

“I feel really good and confident about where we are, and hope we can get to the final four and get that championship,” freshman guard Heaven Homes said.
