*UPDATE* SCCCD Chancellor Deborah Blue’s interview, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, has been delayed until Friday, Jan. 31. The delay was reported by The Town Talk, an Alexandria, La. based news site. Predictions of “sleet and snow,” as well as “freezing conditions,” have prompted the delay.

State Center Community College District Chancellor Blue is now among four finalists who may assume the presidency of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.

On Jan. 20, The Fresno Bee reported that Blue was among seven finalists for the position, which included college administrators from California, Louisiana and West Virginia.

Today, the Associated Press revealed that the number of finalists had been lowered to four, and that Blue remained in the running for the presidency.

It was announced Oct. 8, 2013, that LCTCS president Joe May was the “sole finalist” for chancellor of Dallas County Community College and would thereby be leaving LCTCS after working as president of the Louisiana college system since 2007, a press release stated.

Should Blue be named president of LCTCS, the number of students in the system she leads would nearly triple.

“[LCTCS] educates about 101,000 students annually,” according to information obtained by the Fresno Bee, while enrollment at SCCCD is “more than 34,000.”

The LCTCS is comprised of 13 colleges with focuses ranging from musical theatre and to surgical technology and welding.

According to the AP’s article, published on the website of North Carolina-based newspaper The Dispatch, Blue’s next interview will take place at a “public meeting” in Baton Rouge, La., on Jan. 29.

Blue has served as SCCCD chancellor since 2010, after a one-year tenure as vice chancellor for district-wide planning and educational services at Contra Costa Community College.
