Physical education classes will not be held in the main gymnasium of Fresno City College this summer because of extensive construction that will start on Friday.

The reconstruction will include safer bleachers and handicap accessible accommodations to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

“I hope the new upgrades will allow for everyone to come and enjoy our games as comfortably as possible,” said Brian Tessler, women’s basketball coach.

This update of the gym resulted from three years of careful planning by former President Tony Cantu FCC’s, said Cheryl Sullivan, v.p. for Administrative services.

“The reconstruction will include ADA showers, lockers and an adaptive physical education room,” said she also said.

The project will start on May 15 and work will be continued throughout the summer and is expected to cost $1.2 million.
