On Saturday May 3, in game two of the California Community College Athletic Association regionals playoffs Fresno City College dominated Monterey Peninsula 10-2 in a best-of-three-series. It was a great turnout with the stands being full.
Fresno City College had home field, but they were the visitors for game two. The Rams starting pitcher Sonny Pena allowed only one base hit and one run scored in five innings out of nine innings
In the top of the first inning Rams designated hitter Elijah Moultrie hit a sacrifice fly ball which led to right fielder Jace Davies to score. Left fielder Dallan Alles hit a double as catcher Bo Rico ran home for the score. The Rams led 2- 0 at the end of the first inning.
In the top of the second inning Rams center fielder Hunter Jansen got walked then Jansen stole second base. Jansen advanced to third base on a passed ball.
In the top of the sixth inning Jansen singled on a line drive to Monterey right fielder Jake Hixenbaugh. Fresno City College second baseman Matt Torres got walked which advanced Jansen to second base.
Davies singled on a bunt to Monterey pitcher Damon Mckenzie. Ram’s shortstop Jp Acosta gets out on a sacrifice fly Jansen scored. Torres advanced to third base and Davies advanced to second base. The Rams led 3-0
Moultrie singled on a fly ball to Monterey left fielder Jake Yeater Torres and Davies both scored. Moultrie advanced to second base and stole third base. The Rams led 5-0
Rico walked to first base then Rico stole second base. Alles singled on a line drive to Yeater Moultrie and Rico both scored. The Rams led 7-0.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Monterey batter Yeater got walked. Monterey first baseman Omar Gonzalez hit a two run home run. The Rams led 7-2.
In the top of the eighth inning Acosta doubled on a line drive to Hixenbaugh. Moultrie was hit by a pitch. Alles singled on a hard ground ball to Hixenbaugh. Acosta and Moultrie scored. The Rams led 9-2.
In the top of the ninth inning Jansen homered on a fly ball to right field. The Rams led 10-2.
After game one 4-3 nail biter in 10 innings. The Rams advance to the double elimination super regionals CCCAA playoffs after winning the series 2-0 and have claimed home field for at least one more round.
