The newly elected Associated Student Government President, Miguel Barrita steps into the role with enthusiasm and a clear vision. Having been deeply involved with ASG as a senator, Barrita brings experience and a fresh perspective to the table.
Barrita, a 20-year-old anthropology major embraces the opportunity to connect with diverse individuals. His passion for anthropology fuels his desire to understand different perspectives and experiences.
“As an anthropology major I am able to immerse myself in groups of people and culture, I love it,” Barrita said.
He aims to be an attentive listener and advocate for students’ needs on campus.
“Becoming the new ASG President means a lot to me,” Barrita said.
Barrita cites the former president Nassiba Agbere as a positive influence and one of the reasons why he decided to step up.
“Seeing her get involved with everything she could, inspired me to get more involved with the students on campus,” Barrita said.
Motivated by the example set before him, Barrita is eager to immerse himself in the student community.
“I want to meet with all of the club presidents and have an open-door policy,” Barrita said.
Barrita also hopes to build strong relationships with the student body, creating a comfortable atmosphere where everyone feels welcomed to voice their concerns and ideas freely.
To emphasize his vision, he highlighted his concerns about non-curricular activities. He stated “A problem we have on campus is low engagement for activities like clubs.” He hopes to address these concerns during his presidency.
ASG aside, Barrita is a student who enjoys reading and playing video games, but is committed to using his term to make a difference for the student body.
