“We Owned The Night” is one of the greatest films I have seen this year. It made me feel like I was watching “The Departed” all over again. From the director James Gray, this movie is full of crime and drama. The main actors are Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Joaquin Phoenix, and Robert Duvall.
In this movie, Bobby Green(Phoenix) has turned his back on the family business. The popular manager of El Caribe, the legendary Russian-owned nightclub in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach, has changed his last name and concealed his connection to a long line of distinguished New York cops. For Bobby, every night is a party; he greets friends and customers. Eva Mendes plays Bobby’s girlfriend.
It is 1988, and New York City’s drug trade is escalating. Bobby tries to keep a friendly distance from the Russian gangster who is operating out of the nightclub–a gangster who is being targeted by his brother, Joseph(Wahlberg), an up-and-coming NYPD officer, who tries to look up to his father, and wants to be the best. Burt(Duvall), the legendary deputy chief of police tries to help his son Bobby get out of the drug scene in the New York life.
This movie is an epic film that many should see. It has a lot of action, drugs and nude women. Due to the nudity and drug activity this movie is rated R.
Joaquin, and Mark give an awesome performance in this movie. And Eva basically plays a side line harlot, who stays with Bobby because of his thuggish style.
This movie is getting great reviews holding a solid B. It is a Classic Police, drug and family movie that never gets old, a classic movie to watch an spend your 10 dollars on.
I give this Movie a B because it is a great film to watch, but it is missing a little more action. Other than that, it is a great film everyone should go check it out this weekend. You will not regret it.
