    Belt buckle causes scare

Campus police immediately responded to a report of a student carrying a gun in the Language Arts building Sept 20.

According to Fresno City College Chief of Police, Joseph Callahan, a female student in Robert Boyd’s World Religions class reported she saw what appeared to be a gun on one of her classmate’s lap and he was covering it up with his backpack.

“[Because of the] Virginia Tech incident, we just can’t take any chances. It only took that shooter three minutes to kill thirty-one people; it’s a risk we can not take,” stated Chief Callahan.

After the phone call, two officers and a Sergeant rushed over to the building. They informed Boyd that they were going to wait outside until he let the students out.

When the students left the classroom, Boyd pointed out the seventeen-year-old minor. Officers immediately rushed and subdued the suspect.

The officers handcuffed and took him to the station, where they soon found out that the alleged gun that was seen was actually a belt buckle made as a replica of a handgun. The suspect was then released without charge.
