Football season is almost here

The Rams went 8-3 in 2012, a good year for most schools but average for the Rams, who have gone 106-24 over the past 13 years.

For all their success, the Rams have not won a state championship since 1973, frequently coming up short to the dominant program in California, San Francisco City College.

This year the Rams will meet CCSF in the third game of the season, in what will be an early test of the Rams talent and depth.

The 2012 roster, eight players received Division-1 scholarships.

Coach Tony Caviglia number one goal is to transfer every player to a four-year school.

During Coach Caviglia’s 15 years, he has transferred over 200 players.

This season there are two gaps to fill on both sides of the ball,  because of the transfer of All-Americans Chongo Kondolo and Donnell Vercher.

Coach Tony Caviglia still has not decided on a starter at quarterback. Sophomore Robert Bender played in four games last year, but he faces competition from Nolan Sorensen, a bounce back player from Sacramento State, as well as freshmen Austin Bray and Marcus Montero.

Strong quarterback play will be the key to improving FCC’s second half play. In 2012, Fresno led after the first half in both of their regular season losses. The loss to CCSF was particularly devastating. FCC jumped out to a 28-point lead in the first half, but CCSF clawed their way back and scored the winning touchdown with nine seconds left.

The Rams will return to San Francisco on September 28 this year. This game will be a benchmark test for FCC, if they can beat CCSF it could mean another great team, like the 2011 FCC squad that finished undefeated. Moreover, it could mean that this is the year that FCC will make a run at the elusive state playoffs.
