10 Tips for Hosting a Memorable Party

With the holiday season approaching, many people want to throw a party to celebrate with their friends. Unfortunately, numerous party hosts are clueless when it comes to actually throwing a festive party. Nobody wants to be remembered as the person who had that weak party. Here are the 10 most important tips that you should focus on if you are planning on throwing a memorable and fun-filled party.

1
Find a Good Location
Before you even think of throwing a party you must find a location. Being that winter is on its way, you don’t want to throw a party that is primarily held outside. You also want a place that is very spacious since many people are going to attend, so anything but a house, hotel venue, or a party hall should not be an option. If your party is going to be held at a house, notify the neighbors so they don’t get surprised and call the police.

2
Spread the Word
Unless you have a reputation for throwing great parties, people are going to be hesitant to show up. Therefore, you must hype up your party. You should first pick a date to throw your party at least a week or two in advance, (last minute parties are never a good idea). Notify people about your party through sending mass texts and by setting up a Facebook event. In the Facebook event, you should include: when and where your party is being held, what the theme is (if there is one), if it’s an open house event or invite only, and most importantly, if alcohol will be provided.

3
Provide Good Music
Although this tip is number four on the list, it really is the make or break tool for a good party. People go out to parties to socialize and dance. Music sets the mood and tone for the party. There’s no need to pay for a DJ if you have a stereo or TV that can play fairly loud music. Burn a few CDs or create a large playlist on your iPod with many popular and relative hits. Do not include any sad music or too many slow jams on your playlist; this is party, not a date! When creating your playlist, you may want a friend or two to help you with song ideas. You want to cater to both sexes.
4Clean or Decorate
If your party is at a house, make sure it is clean and smells decent. You don’t want people to walk through the front door and immediately think, “Oh, my God, what is that smell?” Also, put up or hide anything that can break or could possibly be stolen. You want to have some room where people can dance; the living room is usually the best place for this. Hanging up Christmas decorations, banners, or any other decorations in the house is nothing but a bonus.

5
Provide Some Food
This is one asset that only few people actually include in their parties anymore, but can separate your party from the rest. Everybody likes food. When alcohol is included, everybody loves food! Not only will food put a smile on your guests’ faces, but it will also help sober them up before they eventually leave. There is no need to be fancy here. A couple of huge bowls of chips, some salsa and dip, and other snacks will do the job.
6Provide Alcohol*
*This article is intended for people who are 21 or older.
When it comes to throwing a great party, you need a decent amount of alcohol for the number of people you’re expecting. A great variety is best. However, times are rough so if you do not have a lot of money to spend, you still have a few options. Buy a couple of bottles of cheap liquor and juice and turn it into Jungle Juice, have your close friends help provide cash, or inform your guests that it is a “B.Y.O.B. party,” (Bring Your Own Beer party). You can get some money back by charging your guests a couple of dollars at the door, but if you decide to do so, you better make sure you provide a lot of alcohol.

7
Provide a Beer Pong Table
This is a requirement when it comes to having a successful party. Beer Pong has practically become an American pastime. Today, so many people have beer pong tables of their own. You can find a friend to bring one. You will also need four pong balls (in case one or two go missing), and at least 20 plastic cups.

8
Don’t Get Wasted
Of course you want to have fun and drink at your own party. Do so, but stay in control! You do not want to make a fool out of yourself at your own party or not know what is going on. You need to be coherent enough to make sure people aren’t disrespecting your house or party, and keep some sort of order.

9
Don’t Be Afraid to Kick Someone Out
If you’re having a party, you are the boss. If someone shows up who you don’t like or don’t trust, kick them out. You don’t want any possible fights to break out or any of your things to be stolen.

10
Be Responsible For Your Guests
You chose to have a party, so you must be responsible for your guests. If you see someone who has had too much to drink, don’t let them leave without a sober driver! You do not want their death or someone else’s on your conscience, nor do you want to face jail time.
