The community was out in force during this month’s Art Hop in downtown Fresno and the Tower District. During this bi-monthly event, member galleries and businesses in the Fresno area open their doors to the public during the evening and usually have music and food alongside the art. As the name goes, people are supposed to “hop” from gallery to gallery.
Most of the buzz during this month’s Art Hop was in downtown at the Iron Bird Lofts. The Iron Bird Cafe and its neighbor Faithful and True Tattoos were showing art at their businesses. Faithful and True held its grand opening event showing art from artists such as Stephen Love, Prism, and FCC student Christopher Oropeza. DJ I-WNDR provided the entertainment for most of the evening.
At the Iron Bird Cafe, they featured photographer Shannon Hunter and her project called “Home is in Your Head” in which she took self-portraits and wrote narrations to go with the images. Included in the coffee shop were personal artifacts and items that were used as props in the photographs. Shannon collaborated with Jared Jurcak who helped with editing and design.
Art Hop falls on the first Thursday of the month for downtown Fresno / Tower District and on the third Thursday of the month for north Fresno and outlying areas such as Oakhurst. The most popular being the first Thursday event.
