On February 11, the Academic Senate met for its biweekly meeting. Here are a few of the key issues discussed.
-On March 6th in room SO-104, Professor Brian Rutishauser will be giving a dissertation on Ancient Economies. This will take place from three to five and all comers are welcome.
-On May 22 commencement ceremonies will be held. In accordance with this, on February 25th from nine to three, there will be a “success in the city” workshop to evaluate students to see if they can graduate early and make it to this commencement.
-A recommendation was made to open the parking lot near the gym solely for staff, as construction workers and their equipment have been interfering with parking.
-Sabbaticals are on hold until the state budget is passed.
-Senate President Linda DeKruif talked to College President Azari about providing a list of registered sex offenders to the staff and students on campus. Dr. Azari will be getting back to her.
-President Obama will be honored at the Fresno City College wall of honor for black history month.
-For the “March in March” on March 16th, the associated student government has allotted $4,800 for transportation. They are looking for a minimum of six advisors to staff the trip. Also, they will be looking to take 200 students to this large-scale demonstration in Sacramento to protest allotted budget cuts to education.
-The ASG also made a get well card that students signed for the young girl who was struck by a car at Blackstone and Weldon.
