The Fresno City College men’s baseball team prepare for the 2014 season. The team has been preparing for matches against teams in the Central Valley conference and to qualify for the state championship.

The FCC men have a long season ahead with numerous games. The season began on Jan 28, 2014 with a 5-1 winning match against Riverside College. With the help of head coach Ron Scott, his coaching staff and two All-American, the team prepare on their two goals sporting shirts with the quote “A goal is a dream with a deadline May 25, 2014” which refers to state championship.

“Primary goal is CVC”  says coach Scott. “After that our secondary goal is [winning] state championship.” On his two All-Americans, Dominic Topoozian and Ryne Dean, coach Scott says he expects them to be great this season.

Sophomore Ryne Dean says that to him the wins are more important even though he was named an All-American. “We have a great talent…we just gotta put it all together.”

“It’s humbling” says sophomore Dominic Topoozian, “I didn’t expect it” he adds.

On the young season FCC is 3-3 with wins over Sacramento City, Monterey, and Riverside. FCC had a 21 innings loss to Sacramento City in a triple-header.  longest in school history both in terms of time and innings. Pitchers Connor Brogden , Dominic Topoozian, and Hugh Awtry combined for 15.4 innings giving up 8 hits. They produced 17 strikeouts and 13 walks. The losing pitcher freshman Holden Berger gave up 5 runs in the 21 inning. Offensively they were led by Freshman shortstop Scott Silva, who with 10 at-bats, had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Sophomore Designated Hitter Anthony Hawkins scored 2 runs.

The California Community Colleges Baseball Association ranked FCC at number one in Northern California in the preseason.
