The Fresno City College women’s soccer team is coming off a standout “2024-2025” season, outscoring opponents 64–2 and dominating conference play. The Rams’ success was reflected in the futures of their former players, with forward Alyssa White now playing at UNLV, and forward Daisy Torres continuing her career at San Jose State. Despite the Rams’ dominance, an untimely injury to their starting goalkeeper in the playoffs cut the run short, leaving the Rams just one step away from a spot in the Final Four.
This season, the Rams are navigating a roster with only eight returning players and a majority of freshmen, making growth and team chemistry a top priority. Returning sophomores have stepped into leadership roles, emphasizing positivity, patience, and supporting the younger players as they adapt to college-level soccer. The Rams’ goals remain ambitious. Win the conference, reach the Final Four, prepare players to succeed both on the field and academically, while continuing the tradition of moving athletes on to four-year programs.
Returning players said last season taught them the importance of positivity, teamwork, and learning from mistakes. TJ Avila explained that embracing errors as part of the game helped her grow both on and off the field. Brylia Banuelos emphasized that leadership is about setting an example for younger players and creating a supportive environment.
“Positivity really sets the tone,” Brylia said. “Last year we had a strong atmosphere, and now it’s on us to lead by example.” This season the Rams are focused on building chemistry, encouraging one another, approaching each game as an opportunity to improve and grow as a team.
Women’s soccer head coach Oliver Germond said the most significant challenge this season is developing a mostly freshman roster while maintaining consistency on the field. “A lot of our teams in the conference sit back defensively, so it’s challenging to score,” Germond said. The Rams have been working on patience, fitness, and positioning to adapt to different opponents and field conditions.
Players are motivated by both personal growth and team success, with goals. Like winning the conference, advancing to the Final Four, and preparing for opportunities at four-year programs. With strong leadership from returning players and guidance from Germond, the Rams are poised to take on the challenges of the season and make a run at the championship.
After a season that showcased their talent and determination, the Rams are entering the new season with a younger roster but a clear focus on growth and teamwork. We can expect to see great things from the Fresno City College women’s soccer team this season.
