The team on the outdoor court is back in action and ready to have a great season in 2011. The Fresno City College Women’s Tennis team began their season two weeks ago and already they are making an impact.

The tennis team at FCC has come a long way and is starting to build a dynasty of success; considering the difficulty of the Rams pre-season schedule. According to Head Coach Rick Scheidt, “we are going to try and win the conference”. The FCC tennis team entered this season with a nine-player roster and a two person coaching staff led by coach Scheidt.

This season the Rams are looking to win the Central Valley Conference, and that means getting past Reedley. Scheidt said, “it will be tough because our biggest competition is Reedley; they have a good team.” Last season, the Tigers won the Nor Cal championship as well as the CVC title.

This season, the Rams have the potential to bring the CVC title back to FCC. They are currently undefeated has they head into their third week of pre-season. With the returning five players from last year’s team, the Rams will know what to expect when it comes to playing Reedley.

“Reedley has lot of players that our girls know and they are excited about getting the opportunity to play them again”, Scheidt said.

Some of the returning players come into this season with the assumption that they have established themselves in the program and will lead by example. This year’s returning five sophomores have been working hard with Assistant Coach Ronnie Monreal since the fall to hone in and improve their skills, Scheidt said.

As the team enters this season, the coaches are expecting everyone to push themselves to their best capability, allowing success for the entire tennis program.
