Fresno City College announced today that a student was found dead after being reported missing last week. State Center Community College District Police Chief Jose Flores said her body was found by the railroad tracks near the school this morning.

According to Flores, the death will be investigated by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Police Department, BNSFPD, but both Fresno and SCCCD’s police departments will aid in the investigation.

Mental health services are being made available for faculty and students according to an email from FCC President Robert Pimentel sent Monday morning.

“Our student services department will be working with our mental health services to make services available to students in these classes who may be affected by the news,” Pimentel said in the email.

In a separate email to students, faculty and staff, SCCCD Chancellor Carole Goldsmith reflected on the impact to FCC’s community.

“The loss of a student so suddenly and unexpectedly is profoundly upsetting, and our community mourns this life cut short. We express our deep condolences to her family and friends.  Please make time to take care of yourselves and to reach out and be present with each other,” Goldsmith said.

Pimentel also said in the message that the college has not released the name of the student out of respect to the family.

A memorial can be found near parking lot F.
