The transfer center at Fresno City College is offering daily workshops during the month of August for students who want to attend a California State University for the spring 2019 semester.

The month of August is the time to apply for any CSU for the Spring 2019 semester and the transfer center is assisting students in the application process.

“One of the things that we do in the transfer center is we do application workshops to help students fill out the applications correctly and have some confidence that they have all their ducks in a row,” David Shoemaker, the transfer center coordinator at FCC, said. “We prep your transcripts and we have a counselor while you’re working on that application online to answer any questions that you may run into.”

Students who are interested in attending a workshop or have any questions regarding availability are advised by Shoemaker to either call the transfer center, or stop by.

“Typically, we try to do several workshops every day–the easiest thing is to come into the transfer center and see what the next availability is, and what fits in to your schedule. Or students can call us too,” Shoemaker said.

Transferring to a CSU in a spring semester has more requirements than a typical fall semester, Shoemaker said. Students must ascertain that they meet all the transfer requirements, including earning an AA for transfer, holding a minimum GPA of 2.65 and attending one of the local community colleges if they plan to attend Fresno State.

“The CSU accepts only junior level transfer students who have completed 60 units plus the golden four,” Shoemaker said. The golden four includes a communications class, English 1A, a critical thinking course and a transfer level math.

The last day to submit an application for the spring semester is Aug. 31 by 11:59 p.m. The transfer center is available to answer students’ questions regarding their unique situation.

The center is located in the students services building and open during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can call the center directly at 559-442-8290.
