Former ASG Executive Barred from Campus

Impeached Legislative Vice President Karlton Brown said he was told by College Activities Director, Sean Henderson, that he has been barred from coming to Fresno City College and that he would be arrested if he violated that rule.

Brown spoke to the Rampage following an incident on campus on May 1 when he visited the student government office on the second floor of the Student Center building. According to eyewitnesses, as many as four campus police officers surrounded Brown as he exited the ASG office soon after he entered.

Brown, who is not a student at FCC this semester, said the officers told him they had received a call about a disturbance. He was asked to show ID and to explain why he was on campus. Brown explained he had entered the executive board office and spoken with current ASG President Pro Tempore Veronica Farwell.

According to Farwell, she had asked Brown to leave the office several times and he refused.

“I kept telling him ‘You need to leave, you need to go.’ He said, ‘Well, I just wanted to know how everything’s going.’ From there, it was a really quick interaction,” said Farwell. “He basically went into a lot of personal back and forth. And I said ‘You need to get out of here because of all the history you have with the people in this office and all the stuff you’ve done to the people in this office.”

Brown said he was on his lunch break from work and had decided to stop by the college, visit some people and talk about a program known as “Going the Distance.” He also added that he wanted to register for classes.
But all that is in jeopardy because College Activities Director Sean Henderson, who accompanied the officers, had told him ‘If I ever see you on campus again, you will be arrested.’

“How can a person that wants to register for classes not be allowed on campus?” said Brown.

Brown claims it was Farwell who had called the police, but she says she had only called Henderson, the ASG adviser.
“His presence is very unwanted. It’s undesirable. So when you walk into a room where people don’t want you there, they want you to leave,” said Farwell. “Every time that people say you need to leave, you’re now a problem. As soon as he walked in and I said, ‘You need to leave,’ he started to walk right next to me and I was like, ‘I don’t want you here.’”

Newly elected ASG president Nathan Alonzo added that Brown is not wanted in the student government office due to his history. Alonzo said, “It creates an uncomfortable situation if he has no reason to be there and he goes into the executive board office, which he did.”

Brown was impeached last semester after he had allegedly failed to fulfill his duties as LVP. He had also allegedly brought a group of students to campus and cornered former president pro-tempore Daesha Black.

Brown said the whole incident was blown out of proportion. “It wasn’t like I was a threat. I was calm and peaceful,” he said. “I didn’t have any weapons. It’s not like I was running around in the hallways screaming.”
