The Obama administration debate whether to accelerate the pullout of U.S. forces out of Afghanistan by at least 20,000 troops by 2013. The discussion has been going on in the adminsitration for weeks but comes at as a coincidence after the recent alleged killing of 16 Afghan civilians by a U.S. soldier and the violence from the accidental burning of Korans by U.S. troops. All red meat is bad for you, new study says

According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health published online on Monday in Archives of Internal Medicine, any amount of unprocessed red meat could increase the risk of premature death. The risk is increased 20 percent with the consumption of processed meat like sausage and bacon. The consumption of red meat is associated with diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. [LA Times]

California legislator proposes banning violent fans from pro sports games

If passed, California would be the first state to create a “Ban list” that would prohibit violent fans from entering sporting events across the state. The list would be like a restraining order and the offenders’ names and photos would be published online and sent to sporting arenas. [Sac Bee]

Unemployment rates fell in 45 states in January

Unemployment rates fell in 45 states including California, in January according to numbers released by the Department of Labor on Tuesday, March 13. California’s rate decreased from 11.2 percent in Dec. 2011 to 10.9 percent in January. [AP]

‘Game Change’ most watched HBO film in eight years

It may be an uncanny illustration of the McCain-Palin ticket, but HBO’s hit film ‘Game Change’ based off of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s best-selling book about the 2008 election, has skyrocketed expectations for the premium cable network.
