Donovan J. Rivas

Donovan J. Rivas, Reporter

Donovan is new to the Rampage and new to journalism as a whole. He is 19 years old, and was born in Fresno, California on March 9th, 2006. He is currently majoring in bioengineering, with plans to become a biomedical engineer but he is taking journalism as another possible career path, in which he hopes to become a sports analyst on TV for every major sport but specifically the MLB. Donovan was five years old when he was introduced to the sport of baseball and he started playing t-ball after he was introduced to baseball. When he wasn’t playing t-ball or watching baseball on the television he was playing baseball games on his PlayStation 3 where he would indulge on making fictional players with custom backgrounds. Naturally he was a San Francisco Giants fan growing up, same as his brother and his father, however he would later change fandoms to their rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

Donovan was an avid member of his FFA chapter at Central High School. He credits this time and involvement in the program towards helping shape his personality into a more positive one. When he was a senior in high school, Donovan decided to show a hog for his FFA chapter at the Big Fresno Fair, in which he learned a lot about how to take care of another animal. He enjoyed it enough and decided to show another hog a year after he graduated from Central High School, this one he affectionately called “Hammy”. If he wasn’t showing an animal he was helping his chapter with the “Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch” that they hosted each year around Halloween, an experience he describes as an incredibly fun one as it helped him meet new people. One of Donovan’s favorite subjects throughout high school was English, he took a college English course through his school, a course he said was one of his favorite classes in high school, as he got to write long papers and choose which topics to write about.

In his free time you can find Donovan doing some of his favorite things, he loves listening to music and playing video games, but when he’s not doing this he’s watching baseball from April-October every year even if his favorite team isn’t playing. He loves to debate about sports with his peers but really loves to discuss hot topics in baseball. He also likes to watch movies whenever he gets the chance, his favorite genre is action, but he mainly enjoys superhero movies.

One fascinating fact about Donovan is that when he was 6 years old he was diagnosed with a rare disease with less than 100 cases worldwide, this disease is called Shprintzen-Goldberg Syndrome. He doesn’t let this affect him and he embraces the fact he was diagnosed with this disease.
