The Fresno City Softball team defeated Bakersfield College 8-0 in their season opener on Jan. 23 at the Fresno City College Softball Field, finishing the game with a walk-off home run by catcher Amara Klein.
Fresh off her walk-off 3-run home run, Klein felt great about their season opener.
“We have so much further to go, and this team is just gonna flourish,” Klein said.
The Rams started the game with a double play by Shortstop Alexis Alvarado, following two quick outs. Left Fielder Makena Makekau followed that up with an RBI double, sending Alvarado to home base. Rams led 1-0 at the bottom of the inning.

After holding off BC with bases loaded at the top of the second, the Rams go up 5-0 after a runner is batted in by first base player Tabitha Andrews, with a 3-run home run by Utility Player Sydney Yep. A Utility Player is someone good at multiple positions on a team.
The game stagnated until the bottom of the 5th when Catcher Klein hit to left field, sending home outfielder Maya-Jade Taylor and second base player Alexis Lopez and making the score 8-0 where the game would come to a finish for the Rams.
FCC Softball had a successful start to the season, and their next game is away at BC on Jan. 30.
