It is up in the air whether California Governor Gavin Newsom will run for president of the United States in 2028. Newsom has been in the governor’s office for 6 years. Democrats are looking for leaders who will stand up for everyone and think outside the box. I believe he should run for president because he has a lot of experience in governing the largest state in the United States, and that alone has been very impressive. His progress also shows that he focuses on the people and their lives.
Newsom has shown qualities and traits that would be great for the leader of a country. He’s gained insight into many climate, healthcare and economic issues and most importantly, has shown his leadership skills and respect for others.
Gavin Newsom’s campaign will be to “save our democracy.” He believes that all Americans should fight for their rights and freedom, specifically to live with equality and dignity. Newsom wants to move away from how we’re living right now. America right now is full of hatred and dehumanization, it’s a time where our rights have been a joke to our president. Trump is attacking people of color and restricting our freedom.
In 2024, there had been many reported hate crimes against black individuals in New York that led to large protests and forced police officers to hold those responsible accountable. The American Dream isn’t looking like something we can obtain at the moment.
Newsom has stated that the only way things will turn and get better is if we all work towards a better life together. He has also made it clear that his goal as governor of California is to create a state where everyone is respected, protected, and connected.
Much progress has been made and many of Newsom’s priorities have been accomplished during his 6-year term. Some of them are keeping Californians safe, making health care more affordable, and transforming K-12 education with a parents’ agenda. To keep Californians safe, he made investments in local law enforcement and prosecutors to combat violent crime.
Newsom’s actions towards affordable health care for California families has helped an immense amount of families. He is making sure that important health care medicine wasn’t overly expensive, and Insulin and Naloxone have been made more affordable. Education is so important to many, and Newsom has helped schools in California with bonds of billions for teacher preparation. He also established screenings for kids who have trouble reading.
These are all factors that people should keep in mind when considering voting for Gavin Newsom in the upcoming presidential election.
Newsom told CBS News in November that he is considering running for president in 2028. In the summer, there were many U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids all over the country. Many were in Los Angeles. This was a time of sadness and divisiveness.
To give California hope, Newsom uploaded a video on YouTube showing his support for California, called “Governor Newsom Delivers Major Address to Californians.” Newsom showed his vulnerability and expressed how sad it was to see our country so divided when it should be a time of unity.
“This is about all of us. This is about you,” Newsom said. “It’s time for all of us to stand up.”
Proposition 50 is a bill that recently passed in California. A bill that was passed to focus on improving mental health services and support systems. It is aimed to help the funding of mental health programs, crisis intervention, and expand access to care for those struggling with mental health. The way that California all came together to fight for this bill to pass gave Newsom more motivation to run for president.
Although the support for Newsom running for president is running short on behalf of Californians, some still agree and support the way he is doing his job as governor. This is a good look for him. According to an Associated Press voter poll, 45% of Californians would support his presidential campaign.
As his last year in office is coming to an end, he definitely has the time to keep fighting and can make the Democratic Party stronger.
