In the spring we turn our clocks an hour ahead and we lose an hour. In the fall we turn our clocks back and gain an hour. The intended purpose of this is for us to conserve energy, reduce the usage of artificial lighting and make the most of daylight.
Not all countries or states participate in daylight saving time. I believe California should stick to the spring time schedule and not make any transition time changes for the fall.
I am not a fan of daylight saving time in the fall. During the fall, I feel like the nights become so long. By 5 p.m. it’s already dark and it makes me think it’s time for bed.
Reading about how our mental health associates a lot with the climate made me realize how true that is.
I feel like I tend to get in a weird funk when the weather is so gloomy and always rainy. Research shows that when we aren’t receiving sunlight it affects our brain chemistry. It also affects our routines and our emotions. Our bodies need that serotonin that the sunlight brings to us.
I like sunny days because they give me energy to get up and get all I need to get done. I know everyone is different but from those I spoke to, we all agree that rainy weather is pretty but only for a certain amount of time.
I get why people like fall daylight saving time. The weather becomes more cozy and the holidays are right around the corner.
However, during the spring, I like how the days are longer and warmer. It gives us more time to spend outside and enjoy the weather.
We’re able to go on walks, enjoy the outdoors, and exercise which all are known for being a mood booster and can help with reducing stress and anxiety. Longer daylight hours can help people feel safer while doing certain activities. This is due to the fact that it gets darker later. When it becomes really dark early in the day it can potentially cause crime rates to go up.
This can become really unsafe and people may get affected by this. People won’t want to leave their homes. This could definitely be a factor to seasonal depression, something no one wants.
I think we should stick to the same time all year around and let it be the spring time that we’re keeping. There are more benefits to keeping the spring time daylight saving schedule.
