Fresno City College hosted Spooky Orchestra Concert: Spooky Stories on Oct. 14 at the theatre on campus.
During the orchestra, selections from different popular pieces were performed. The Peer Gynt Suite, Night on Bald Mountain, Jabba the Hutt theme and the Harry Potter Suite were all performed.
The Jabba the Hutt theme featured a solo from Cody Forcier, a decorated performer who won multiple awards for his performances. Conducting the orchestra was Elisha K Wells, the Director of Band, Brass and Orchestra at FCC.
Wells is also an accomplished musician. Having previously instructed and lectured at Sacramento State, Stanislaus State, and College of Sequoias among others. She is now a faculty member at FCC.
“I love supporting local music, especially music from schools like Fresno City and Fresno State,” said Bryan Woolrich, a local who attended the event.
The members of the orchestra prepared for the concert for weeks. Rehearsals would last from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
“It feels great knowing that what I’m actually putting work into is appreciated by the community,” said Noah Vang, a student member of the orchestra.
Members of the orchestra emphasized an overall feeling of composure and security.
“It’s not difficult for us. Normally, a lot of groups would panic, let the nerves get to them but all of us, we know we have each other’s backs,” said Andres Zamora-Moreno, another member of the orchestra.
FCC has an active music program. Jazz, orchestral and even multiple mariachi events are all planned to take place within the next year. All of these events are being updated actively on the FCC website.
