Fresno City College kicked off Women’s History Month with an international women’s day celebration on March 8.

Around 50 people including students and faculty attended the event.

The event was organized by women’s campus connection and FCC student activities.

The celebration included speakers such as Vice President of Student Service, Lataria Hall and Fresno Poet Laureate Marisol Baca and a singing performance done by Julie Dana and her students as well.

State Center Community College District Chancellor Carole Goldsmith was one of the speakers at the event. “I hope that everybody who attended realizes that we’re all connected, that we have a connection that goes beyond the fact that we’re just going to Fresno City College, that we’re all coming here to try to do something better, to better ourselves, to better our families, to better our lives and to remember the women that came before us,” Goldsmith said.

Students were surprised  that FCC put on an event like this.

“It was a really good event, I was not expecting it,” said fire science and technology student Alexis Hernandez.

Student Activities and Planned Parenthood club hosted booths with information during the event, along with other FCC organizations.
