Six nursing students at Fresno City College created a “Go Fund Me” fundraiser for a Costa Rica study abroad trip in 2019.

The groups’ aim is to pay for half of the trip by raising $12,000 before the deadline of the registration on Oct. 2, 2018.

The nursing department is offering students the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica for 14 days in the last week of May through the first week of June 2019.

The Program offers students opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture, while at the same time learning about Costa Rica’s healthcare system.

“We encourage students to see in it person, so they can see the cultural differences,” said Gretchen Ezaki, nursing instructor, who is involved in organizing the trip.

The estimated $4,000.cost covers the flight, housing, transport and tours. The trip will tour four different diverse tropical regions. Students will explore Costa Rica’s beautiful National Parks and fine cuisine.

This is the second trip that instructor Ezaki has led to Costa Rica; the last trip was in 2016, and offered only three ecosystems with no transferable units.

“This trip,” said Ezaki, who will be the instructor for the Improving Cultural Competence Through Cross-Cultural Experience, “we added a fourth ecosystem and two courses with transferable units for the students.”
