FCC water polo player Marissa Vargas gives some insight to her life outside the pool
Q.How long have you been playing Water Polo?
A.Nine years. My dad convinced me to play the sport I had never heard of water polo. My dad offered me an ipod, which had just come out at the time. That’s how I started playing.
Q.What sport did you originally play?
A.I used to be a runner; that was my first love.
Q.What do you enjoy about water polo?
A.I like the aggressiveness, the physical contact, the intensity, and I love competing against other teams trying to win. I enjoy playing on a team.
Q.What do you like to do outside the pool?
A.I like to hangout with my friends, dance, or go running. I can run up to five miles.
Q.How important is education to you?
A.I’ve been on the Dean’s list twice; education is very important to me; without an education, I wouldn’t know where to go.”
Q.One word to describe yourself?
A.Positive, because everyday, I bring positive energy and happiness to the team and bring people up when they are down.
Q.How has coach Rossi helped you in and out of the pool?
A.She’s helped me with commitment in and out of the pool and how important it is to be on a team; you need to be committed to something, and she has taught me team bonding and working together with my teammates.
Q.When you’re done with water polo at FCC, what will you miss the most?
A.My teammates and playing here.
