Cantu Says He Would Support Smoking Ban on Campus

Q:What kinds of things do students come to you for?

A:I normally see students after they have gone to see the dean.  They come to me normally for grade issues.

Q:In an interview with the Rampage earlier this semester, Dr. Azari explained that we have more students than we are able to accommodate with 101.5 percent enrollment.  How will we reduce the amount of people who enroll or accommodate those in need?

A:By reducing some of the sections. For fall, we’ve cut about 10 percent of courses, and we’ve also been looking at enrollment patterns and using different enrollment strategies.

Q: If President Azari takes the position at Riverside College, what would this mean for FCC?

A:I think it will be a loss but you know she wants to be closer to her family and I understand that.

Q: What are your thoughts on some of the issues on campus such as smoking?

A: I think smoking is going to become a bigger issue.  I know ASG is looking into banning smoking on campus.  I would support it.

Q: How do you feel about the progress of the OAB?

A: It’s great.  We’ll have classes there in the spring.  It’s pretty exciting.  It’s been a very long time; you know the building was closed for over 30 years old.  I think it enhances the environment on campus.”

Q:Can you describe a typical day as the Vice President of Instruction?

A: I attend a lot of meetings that have to do with the business of the college.  I meet with a lot of individually throughout the day.  Right now, the real focus is on accreditation and getting ready for it.

Q: What kind of legacy would you like to leave when you retire?

A: We’re all focused on helping students succeed.
