Eva Edwards, a Fresno Unified teacher, was overweight before her doctor approved for her to get Lap Band. She had tried every diet product you can think of. “Yea, they did work, but it was hard for me to keep with the diet,” Said Edwards. She said that after she reached her weight goal she would stop the dieting and gain the weight back.

What diet companies don’t tell their costumers that there is high chance of them gaining the weight back if they stop the dieting? But how long can a person live on such strict diets, like South Beach and Atkins, who demand a low carb diet.

Ricarda Cerda, food and nutrition instructor at Fresno City College does believe in diets. The only thing a person will lose is their money she said. When Cerda was asked what can a person who is 100 pounds overweight do? “If someone is overweight they need to be under a doctor’s care. We are talking about a health issue. They need to be working with a physical, and a dietitian,” said Cerda.

Cerda believes that the most efficient way to lose with is to change their lifestyle. People need to get eat more plants. She added. If a person buy diets products and they meet their weight goal, but then return to the same lifestyle in will regain the weight.

Ryan Scott a physical activity instructor at Fresno City College. Says people need to change their diet and start a workout program. “I’m not into losing the fats, people lose fat really fast. Then 2-3 years later they regain the weight.

Gina Fierro, a FCC student doesn’t agree with making diet companies wealthier each year. “From my experience with my family, it doesn’t work. My mom has used every diet product out there, and she never lost weight,” said Fierro.

Stephanie Annett, a Dietitian in the health services at FCC. Says, that buying diet product might work for some people, but they must change their lifestyle after, or else they will regain. “I would rather see students with their limited money buying fruits and veggies, signup for the gym, then buying expensive diet products,” said Annett.

Annett is available at the health service on Fridays till noon. Student can go seek professional advice on dieting, and see where the body mass is. “Maybe all a student needs is to buy a new pair of sneakers,” said Annett.
