The production “Trains, Trains, Trains!” by Fresno Community Concert Band was on Jan. 20 in the Fresno City College Theatre and was conducted by Bruce Weinberger.

The concert was well-rounded with harmonious tunes and very imaginative music, there was even a section where Weinberger had the audience close their eyes to visualize the music.

While at most band concerts people can only hear a few select instruments, audiences can hear every instrument at a perfect level without being overbearing.

Using different instruments captured the essence and realism of steam train sounds. As well as the use of a steam train’s steam whistle.

“As a creative director, I have full control over choosing music. I first choose a theme, then I choose the music that best fits the theme,” Weinberger said.

The band consists of instrumentalists ranging from college students to an 87-year-old. Their jobs range from registered nurses to professors from local universities. Because of this, they can only meet once a week for around two hours and somehow, still manage to be in tune and balanced.

Band manager, Julie Garcia, explained that they have six concerts for each season and have performances at Fresno City and Shaghoian Concert Hall.

“This is our 30th season and we had a previous concert where we had local composers come out and join us,” Garcia said.

For people looking for a fun, family-friendly event in town, the band has three more concerts coming up: A Saint Paddy’s Eve Fest on March 16, On Broadway on April 20, and their last concert of the season called For Those We Honor on May 26.
