Season Round Up

Fresno City College Rams’ spring semester was one filled with accomplishments.

Fresno City College Men’s Basketball team finished with a 31-3 overall record, took the Central Valley Conference with a perfect 12-0, and earned the No.2 seed in the Regional Playoffs.  Big wins against Delta, Yuba, and Diablo Valley College secured their Final Four spot. The season ended with a 94-84 loss to Citrus College.

Individually – Quinton Watkins, Percy Lemle, Alex Fletcher, Earl Jefferson, and Jibreel Nasir took spots on the All-Conference Team. Watkins took CVC Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. Head coach Ed Madec was also named CVC Coach of the Year.

The women’s basketball team finished 26-7 overall and won their fourth CVC title with a perfect 10-0 record, forty straight wins in four years of conference play.

The No.1 seeded Rams were victorious in first round, but the season ended for the Rams in a 80-75 quarterfinals loss to Sierra.

Lacey Gibbons, Marlee Wilkinson, Kayla Clement, and Ebone Brown earned All-Conference honors, while Gibbons was dubbed CVC Player of the Year.

The men’s baseball team took third place in the CVC at 14-10,  and rounded out the season with an 19-17 record.

Despite an ups and downs, the Rams earned the No. 18 seed, and are plated against the No.15 seed Cosumnes College. The winner will take on top-seeded Feather River in a best-of-three series starting Friday.

FCC Softball team finished the regular season 24-14 overall, placing second place in the conference with a 14-4 record.

They also earned a place in the playoffs as the No.11 seed. They will be taking on No.6 Cosumnes College in a three-game-series beginning this Saturday.

Impact players this season included Tiffany Ballardes, Valerie Gobby, and Kapri Angotti. Ballardes finished the regular season with a .417 batting average, Gobby went .400, while Angotti was a conference leader with a .371 batting average.

FCC Women’s Tennis team   went 13-3 this season and placed second in the Big 8 Conference South with a 10-2 record.

“They have improved quite a lot,” said assistant coach Ronnie Monreal.

Four of the players on the Rams roster earned a spot in the Regional tournament, including Maddie Loomis, Katherine Feeters, Allie O’Neill, and Regina Leyba.

Coach Monreal marked improvements for the team and says they are on track to take the conference title next year.

“Last year we took third, this year we took second, next year were looking to win the conference,” Monreal said.

Men’s Tennis team finished the regular season at 16-2 record, and won a Big 8 conference title along the way.

The Rams 16-2 overall record earned them the No.2 spot in the NorCal playoffs and a home game against Foothill College later today.

The cheer and stunt squad also had yet another successful season that spanned through the fall and spring semesters, representing both the football and basketball teams.

They wrap their strenuous with tryouts this week, which are geared for potential participants and the returning squad.

Head Coach Hope Villines said, “The 2010-11 team really raised the bar here at Fresno City College.”
