Long Distance Relationships Are Worth It

February 21, 2017

There are many reasons why relationships become long distance. For instance, partners may go away for military duty, work, even college. Yet, the love is still there, miles away.

A successful relationship requires interest, time and attention that you still can receive from your partner even while being far from one another.

Many people believe that long distance relationship aren’t going to prosper. Long distance relationships may seem strenuous, but it has its own surprises.

In order to keep that long distance relationship alive, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

See it as an opportunity. In other words, view it as a learning experience for the both of you. Instead of thinking that the distance is keeping you apart, believe through this experience, the both of you will bond together even closer.

Try to communicate regularly, and creatively. Not to mention on a daily basis, if possible. Know each other’s schedule accordingly. “Good morning” and “Goodnight” everyday is a must. By putting in such effort, you will make your partner feel loved and attended to.

The biggest benefit of being in a long distance relationship is that it forces you to communicate. Surely, communication is the key. Communication builds trust, forces you to hear, and builds mutual respect amongst each other. Caring and supportive relationships are built by developing effective listening skills. Poor communications skills can harm your relationship.

Most importantly, try to avoid giving in to jealousy. The reality of the situation is your partner will be spending more time with other people than with you. Instead, make an effort to get to know your partner’s friends. So that when he or she tells you stories that begin with “last night when Charles and I went out,” you’ll know exactly who Charles is and have a clear picture of your partner’s daily life.

Avoid mind games. No one likes their emotions to be played with, especially the power game to see who cares more or who cares less.

Figuring out how to make long distance relationships work may seem tricky, but still, you have to make an effort if you want your relationship to last. Most importantly, make the most of it. Someone once said, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
