FCC Theater Comes To Life During Auditions

August 29, 2017

About 30 students auditioned for the musical “American Idiot,” while 20 vied for a part in “Silent Sky,” on Aug. 21 and 22, in the Fresno City College Theatre Arts Building.

Those auditioning had to perform a one-minute monologue for “Silent Sky.” As they lined up to perform, many were enthusiastic and hyped.

“For each person it is different,” Marlina Echo, an actress for two years, said. “For me, it would be staying motivated in spite of what people tell me.”

“Silent Sky” takes place in the early 1900’s at Harvard Observatory, where Henrietta Leavitt is not allowed to share her ideas or use instruments such as telescopes because she is a woman.

Despite the challenges she faces, she still attempts to measure the light and distance of the stars but is faced with the balance between her passion for science with the harmony of her family.

Randy Lon, who has been acting since the age of 8, said the biggest challenge of being an actor is being extremely tired.  She forces herself to get up everyday, and was inspired at a young age by Britney Spears.

Silent Sky will be directed by Janine Christl and runs from Nov. 10 through Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.

“American Idiot” will be directed by Charles Erven, and runs from Oct. 6 through Oct. 14, The show will include all songs from Green Day’s album “American Idiot” as well as a few from “21st Century Breakdown.”

The auditions were held for the characters of Johnny, Tunny and Will who attempt to discover a post-9/11 world by the exploration of city life.
