On Oct. 1, 2015 Roberto Cobian along with the CEO Club hosted Art Hop at Fresno City College Main Fountain Area from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. giving FCC artists to showcase their work.

“As far as I know, Art Hop has been around for 3 semesters at Fresno City College,” Cobian, the event host from Culture Clothing (clothing brand) and a member the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) said. “I say today attended, all in all about 200 to 300 people. It was a good amount, this was a good location at the main fountain area,” Cobian said.

Art Hop occurs every first and third Thursday of the month. It is managed by the Fresno Arts Council, which is a non-profit organization. There isn’t a specific location, it happens in many different galleries, museums, studios and venues in Downtown Fresno/Tower District around 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. This event is free.

“The difference with this one here on campus is that it’s exclusively for FCC students, to help them showcase their art and to help them sell it and to be able to make a profit of it,” Cobian said.

Each artist at Art Hop has creativity, passion for art and are attending FCC to further their career.

Emerald Thomas, a 19-year-old FCC student, spoke on how Art Hop allows artists to showcase their talent.

“It’s great because a lot of these people are from my community, a lot of these people are my friends, family and co-workers and just people I surround myself with each day. It’s just nice to see other people getting to see what I’m doing as far as chasing my dreams,” Emerald Thomas, the owner of Select Society (Clothing Line) and a CEO Club member said.

“Fresno City College is an inspiring environment,” Naomi Marie, a 23-year-old Art Painter and Art Major at FCC said.

“I like it because I get to show my artwork,” Marie said. “I like it because I get to interact with people I go to school with and finally show my artwork to friends that haven’t seen my work.”

See the Student Activities Office if your club is interested in hosting an event on campus and fill out both a facility request and fundraiser request from Janice Wong, a college assistant or Maile Martin, another college assistant.

“After I joined a club, I went to talk to a couple of people, I had to put in a facility request, and I also had to put in a fundraiser request,” Cobian said. “The fundraiser request allows the artist to be able to sell our merchandise and part of the profits goes back to the CEO Club.”
