The following letter was sent to the Rampage staff last week by an FCC student. The narrative in its entirety is the student’s.

In the name of Allah

Dr. Azari,

Your answer to the question, “Students can achieve success for the remainder of the semester?”, is no answer for the person in my situation.

The “instructor” is the reason I’m falling behind. I’m a first semester student here taking a CAM course.

The instructor boasts that he’s taught CAM here at FCC for 20 years, but yet he doesn’t know how to teach the slow learner, (to which he confesses to being one himself) and also stops short of telling me, he never…meaning to say that in his 20 years of teaching he has, “never” had a student like me.

Maybe they didn’t hang on like me and over the years he just watched students like me drop out. Also maybe he’s trying to tell me I’m unique.

I have no intentions, by the grace of Allah, of dropping out.

Adib

Dr. Azari’s Response

Adib,

I applaud your determination to stay in the course and be successful. I would encourage you to go to the Tutorial Center as soon as possible and ask for assistance. I spoke to someone in the Center, and she indicated that they will find someone to help you with your CAM class. The Tutorial Center is located in the Library building.

In terms of “being unique,” I think that each of us has different strengths, and uniqueness is a quality that is to be appreciated. If we were all the same the world would be a dull place in which to live.

If you feel the need to pursue a complaint, you should follow the Grievance Policy for Students in the College Catalog.
