For two long years, Larry Honda has dreamed of having Otis Murphy perform at Fresno City College.

His dream will finally be realized.

Mr. Murphy, a world renowned alto saxophonist, will share his great talents with FCC on March 14.

Mr. Honda’s dream began when he saw Murphy perform at Butler University two years ago.

“I made it my mission to get him to perform at Fresno City,” Mr. Honda said.

He had never met Mr. Murphy but made it known that he wanted him to play in Fresno.

At the same event the following year, Honda spoke with Murphy again about the possibility of coming to FCC.

This time, his response was a bit more certain.

Not only did he agree to perform for this man he did not know, but he also asked Honda to play alongside him during one portion of the recital.

“Some people are just good at reading others,”said Honda. “He must have recognized how sincere I was.”

The FCC music department offers a rare oppotunity to witness a world-class musician within the walls of the college’s recital hall.

“Otis Murphy is the finest concert saxaphonist that I have ever heard,” said Honda in a press release for the event, “The opportunity to hear this musical artist should not be missed.”

Along with the recital, Mr. Murphy will be hosting a saxaphone workshop on the following day from 10a.m.- 12p.m. in MS 135.

The recital begins at 7:30 p.m.. General admission is $15, students and seniors pay $10.
